SAVE A MEMORY

Program your NFC tag to store and display a special text message, quote, or memory that appears when tapped.

TL;DR: Open NFC Tools, tap Write, select Add a record, choose Text, type your message, write to your tag. Now anyone who taps it will see your saved message.

AT a Glance
Time: 3-5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
You'll Need: NFC-enabled phone, NFC Tools app, your message or memory to save
Steps.
  1. Open NFC Tools app
  2. Create a Text record
  3. Write your message
  4. Save to your NFC tag
Open NFC Tools and Start Writing

Launch the NFC Tools app on your phone. Tap the Write tab at the bottom of the screen. This opens the writing interface where you can add different types of content to store on your NFC tag.

Add a Text Record

Tap Add a record, then scroll through the options and select Text. This allows you to store plain text that will display as a notification when someone taps the tag with their phone.

Type Your Message or Memory

Enter your text in the message field. This could be a special quote, a love note, a reminder, coordinates to a special place, or any memory you want to preserve. Keep it concise - most phones display about 100-200 characters in the notification.

Write to Your Tag

Tap Write at the bottom of the screen. Hold your NFC tag against the back of your phone (near the NFC antenna) and keep it steady until you see confirmation that the write succeeded. Your memory is now saved!

Troubleshooting

Message Doesn't Appear When Tapped
  • Some phones may require NFC permissions for the notification to display
  • The message may appear briefly then disappear - check your notification history
  • Try reading the tag with NFC Tools to verify the text was written correctly
Message Is Cut Off or Incomplete
  • Phone notifications have character limits - keep messages under 150 characters for best results
  • Some special characters may not display correctly - stick to letters, numbers, and basic punctuation
  • For longer content, use a URL to a Google Doc or note-taking app instead
Can't Edit or Change the Message
  • If the tag was locked after writing, you can't change it - you'll need a new tag
  • If not locked, just follow the same steps to overwrite with a new message
  • Use NFC Tools' Read function first to verify the tag isn't write-protected

F.A.Q.

How much text can I store?

Most NFC tags can store several hundred characters, but phones typically show only the first 100-200 characters in the notification. For longer content, use a URL to a note or document instead.

Can I format the text with bold or colors?

No, plain text records don't support formatting. The text appears as a simple notification. For formatted text, consider using a URL to a web page with your styled content.

Will the message disappear over time?

No. Once written to the tag, the message stays there permanently (unless you overwrite it). NFC tags don't need power to retain data - they can last for decades.
